Aunt Abigail's Photo Album is a program for PCs running Microsoft Windows operating systems. It was developed in 2000 and 2001, and sold through this web site until the end of 2006, when sales were discontinued because of our failure to get the word out. Despite over 5 years of effort, we had been able to sell fewer than 1,000 copies, even at the bargain basement price of $30.
On the other hand, the program was extremely well loved by the hundreds of people who did manage to discover it and bought it. We got rave reviews from the few, small publications who actually did review the program. We got dozens of emails of thanks from purchasers who had been looking for a program like this for years without success.
It has now been over 3 years since we closed up shop, and there are still frequent requests from purchasers for help in getting the program going on their new computers, because they just can't live without it. So, the decision has been made to release the final version as freeware, with the time limit of 60 days use removed, so that paid users can stop worrying about getting new Unlock Keys every time they upgrade their PC, and can also feel free to share the program with their family and friends, without limitation.
It is a program which allows you to very easily lay out pages consisting of pictures and words, and then print them out on sheets of paper that you can use to make an old fashioned, physical photo album. It includes very simple and intuitive tools for cropping and sizing your pictures, and putting them inside colored frames of various shapes. Captions can be in any font, size, and color, and the background can be in any color, or transparent.
Even though the main purpose is to print pages for physical albums, you can also save any page to a graphic file on your hard drive. These files can then be emailed, or posted on Facebook or other web sites. They can also be copied to a CD or usb drive, and carried to a print shop to be printed on a color laser, or other professional quality printer.
Of course, there are plenty of other programs that can do the
same things, so if you already have Photoshop, and you are an
expert in using it, you won't have any need for Aunt Abigail.
However, for most people, all other page layout programs are
difficult enough to learn and use that they would rather not
bother. For all those people, this program makes a task
which would normally be impossible not only possible, but easy
and fun. Try it, you'll probably like it.
